From the Corner of Imagination and Exploration

Welcome back to another exciting year of Discovery!

This year in Discovery your child will be learning to become the next generation of innovators and problem solvers. We will be embracing STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math through Architecture and Robotics. STEAM combines hands-on science labs, engineering challenges, and investigations that include math and the arts.  I will be teaching your child the skill sets needed for young thinkers and makers to prepare them for their future education and careers. STEAM engages students with hands on challenges and increases motivation with project-based learning. Your child will be encouraged to solve authentic problems through teamwork to build real-life solutions.

My goal is to connect your child’s learning with real life by discovering pathways between what they are learning today and becoming the leaders of tomorrow. We will achieve this goal through hands-on, technology-based activities that promote critical and creative thinking, and challenging, engaging, inquiry-based learning.

We will begin our year learning about or reviewing the Scientific Method and the Engineering Design Process. We will follow that with an exciting unit on Architecture along with Robotics. Each grade level will be using the following robotics:

1st Graders will be using the new Ozobot Evos and the Vex 123

2nd Grade will be using the Lego We Do 2.0

3rd Grade will be using the Lego Spike

4th Grade will be using the Vex Go Robotics

5th Grade will be using the Vex IQ Gen. 2 Robots.
