Award-Winning Character Education
Rowlett Academy is proud to offer its award-winning character education program, Power Up Your Habits, which received the prestigious Little Red Schoolhouse Award. Developed by Rowlett teachers and taught in every classroom, the program is built on the principles found in Stephen R. Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The Leader in Me, as well as Sean Covey's The 7 Habits of Happy Kids.
Through regularly scheduled lessons, students develop leadership, problem-solving, collaboration, respect, and personal responsibility skills using the framework of the 7 Habits. Students are encouraged to discover and use their unique strengths and talents, often referred to as Habit 8: Find Your Voice, while learning how to lead themselves and positively impact others.
Rowlett's commitment to leadership development has earned international recognition. In 2016, the school achieved designation as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, and in 2025, Rowlett was named a Leader in Me Legacy School, the highest honor awarded by the organization.
Students gain valuable 21st-century leadership skills and are empowered to become confident, capable leaders. Our Student Lighthouse Team, composed of student leaders from grades 3–5, meets regularly to plan leadership initiatives, support school events, and help foster a culture of leadership throughout the campus.
A strong partnership between school and home is essential to developing tomorrow's leaders. We encourage families to stay actively involved in their child's education and to reinforce leadership skills at home. Rowlett Academy maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward bullying and is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for every student.
Habit 1: Be Proactive - I am a product of my choices. I am free to choose and am responsible for my own choices. Focus on what you can, not on what you cannot.
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind - I live by design. Mental creation precedes physical creation. Define and align your unique contribution.
Habit 3: Put First Things First - I put important things first. Effectiveness requires the integrity to act on
your priorities.
Habit 4: Think Win-WIn - There is plenty out there for everyone, and more to spare. Effective long-term relationships require mutual respect and mutual benefit. Think “we,” not “me.”
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood - I listen with the intent to understand, not to reply. To communicate effectively, we must first understand each other.
Habit 6: Synergize - Together we can create a better way, a higher way. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Believe in Third Alternatives.
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw - I nurture the goose that lays the golden egg. To maintain and increase effectiveness, we must renew ourselves in body, heart, mind, and soul. Invest in yourself.
As part of embracing the 7 Habits, all students are expected to learn The Rowlett Power Pledge. Bracelets are given to those students who know the pledge by heart.
