Rowlett Academy ELA Block K-2nd Grade 2023-2024
• 60 minutes daily of Skills Instruction utilizing CKLA
o Close adherence to the CKLA Scope and Sequence Skills for each grade level.
o Phonemic Awareness Instruction incorporated utilizing Heggerty daily. Given classroom schedules, this can be within the 60-minute block or outside of it.
• 60 minutes daily of Knowledge Building utilizing CKLA
o Close adherence to the CKLA Knowledge Strand Scope and Sequence.
o All Knowledge units must be taught to build background knowledge throughout the grades unless otherwise decided in collaboration with the Curriculum Coordinator or Administration.

• 120 minutes of ELA instruction daily to include: Foundational Skills Building (Phonemic Awareness, Phonics/Word Study, Fluency, & Vocabulary), Speaking & Listening, Reading, and Writing, and Knowledge Building.
o Close adherence to the CKLA Knowledge Strand Scope and Sequence.
o All Knowledge units must be taught to build background knowledge throughout the grades unless otherwise decided in collaboration with the Curriculum Coordinator or Administration.
o Heggerty: Bridge the Gap to be utilized as needed for phonemic awareness during whole and/or small groups. Given classroom schedules, this can be within the 120-minute block or outside of it.
