About Me

     My name is Laurie Hamill. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and moved to Sarasota, Florida over thirty five-years ago. My two wonderful daughters, Amanda, age 31 and Jessica, age 30 are both graduates of Rowlett Academy. I graduated from the University of South Florida, completing my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education as well as my Reading and Gifted Endorsements.

    I love teaching, as it is so exciting to watch children blossom into independent critical and creative thinkers. My philosophy is that children learn best in a non-threatening environment where they feel safe to explore new ideas. They need hands-on fun activities that create challenging and meaningful experiences. Children need to know that it is OK to make mistakes and be encouraged to try new things. Understanding your child's feelings, fulfilling their needs, enriching their strengths, and teaching them to be critical and creative thinkers are only some of the rewards I will receive as your child's Discovery teacher. I will provide a class environment where children love to come and to learn. I will encourage life skills such as integrity, responsibility, cooperation, decision making, and patience. I consider it a privilege to have a part in molding your child’s life and in motivating them to become lifelong learners. I am looking forward to challenging your child as they grow and learn during this fun and fantastic school year.
